About Me

About me

I’m a father, a son, a teacher, a student, a traveler, and a linguist.

I’m currently finishing my last year at Johns Hopkins University pursuing a M.S. in Digital Age Learning and Educational Technology, while I take care of my daughter as a stay-at-home father. I’m also the founder of Café Lingua, a nonprofit language exchange café in Maryland, USA.

Prior to leaving teaching to pursue a language learning nonprofit, I’ve taught in the US, the UK, Belgium, and Japan. I’ve taught students as young as 3 and as old as 90. I’ve taught on military bases, in churches, and in public schools, primarily teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). But, I’ve also taught math, science, robotics, and social studies.

I speak Spanish and Japanese, and I’m currently learning French. I love languages and their potential for connecting disparate groups of people. I’m developing Café Lingua because I believe all humans deserve a sense of belonging and a quality education. I hope to make language education more accessible and affordable, with ample opportunities to actually use the language in context.
